Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman on Feburary 26, 2012 in Sanford, Flordia. He was seventeen years old and an African American. Zimmerman was a 28 year old multi-racial man who was the community watch coordinator.

Zimmerman was on a private errand when he saw Martin walking inside the gated community. He was visiting his father and his father's fiancee. Zimmerman then called the police to report that Martin's activities seemed suspicious. Shortly after, there was an altercation followed by a bullet in the chest of Martin at close range.

When the police arrived on the scene, Zimmerman told the police that Martin had attacked him and that the shooting was only a form of self-defense. Zimmerman had a wound to the back of the head & his nose was bleeding. EMS treated Zimmerman on the scence and, afterwards, he was taken to the police station for hours of questioning. A video statement was taped and he was released without being arrested.

Allegations of a racist motivation for the crime sprung up and a special prosecutor was appointed to the case. She chose to file for murder in the second degree against Zimmerman.

Family & friends have a hard time dealing with the tragic loss of Trayvon Martin and the supposed racism behind his death.

Vampire Killer: Tracey Wigginton

Tracey in 1989

Lately, our society is big on vampires. We have the Twilight saga, the Vampire Diaries, and even Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. What happens when vampires become real? What happens when they manifest themselves into our world? This is what happens:

Tracey Wigginton, her lesbian lover, and two other girls lured a drunk man into their vehicle and drove away. Wigginton enticed him with sexual favors; he followed her. Instead of what she'd promised, he was brutally attacked. He suffered so many stab wounds to his back and chest that he was virtually decapitated. However, she was not done until she drank his blood. He was found early the next morning. In his shoe, there was a card with Tracey Wigginton's name on it. This lead to an early arrest of all four women.

Tracey 2012

During the trial, Wigginton confessed to being a vampire. She said that she did not live on solid food alone, but the blood of cows and pigs that she got from the local butcher. Wigginton's lover admitted that on several occasions, she would slit her wrists so that Wigginton could drink her blood. The four women devised this plan to feed Wigginton's obsession and craving for human blood.

Both Wigginton and her lover were sentenced to life imprisonment. The other two women were sentenced to 18 year which was later reduced to 12 years. One of the women was later acquitted when it was determined that she had no real role in the murder, but instead tried to keep the others from taking part in it as well.

Wigginton was released from prison in January of 2012.

A Case Of Bad Parenting: Mary Beth Tinning

Mary Beth Tinning. Everyone thought her to be a good mother until her children started dying off. Here's her story:

She had two children and was pregnant with another. She didn't seem to like the messy part of mothering: the cleaning, the crying, the dealing with the problems. She seemed only to care for the happy moments. It's like her babies were her play toys. One night, her son began crying and throwing Jell-O agaisnt the wall. It pushed her over the edge.

All the doctors were told was that she found him in his bed, not breathing. However, he seemed to be too old to die of SIDS. Everyone came swooping in trying to help Mary Beth and her husband, Joe, deal with the devastation that had just taken over their lives. Mary Beth liked the attention. Only two weeks after buring her son, her daughter was found the exact same way: not breathing in her bed, rushed to the hospital, pronounced dead.

Doctors began looking into reasons the children could be dying. They thought maybe it was some sort of genetic disease. After tons of testing, they found nothing. While police and others began to suspect Mary Beth, her husband could not believe she could've killed their kids.

She gave birth to her son and he, too, died the same way. After being advised not to get pregnant again, for fear that the children were dying from a genetic disorder, the couple celebrated a new pregnancy a year later. The pattern followed.

This kept happening until, finally, Mary Beth and Joe Tinning decided to adopt a child. After he died the exact same way, suddenly the possibility of a genetic disorder was gone. Still, husband Joe stuck by her side.

She also attempted to poison her husband. He ended up in the hospital. The doctors thought it was an overdose until he was questioned. He admitted that he thought Mary Beth tried to poison him but it didn't matter. He said, "You have to believe the wife."

Mary Beth and Joe got pregnant once more, thirteen years later. Tami Lynne - their last child - died the same way.

Finally, Mary Beth confessed to smothering Tami Lynne. She was convicted and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Husabnd Joe continues to stick by her side, promising to provide a home for her if and when she gets released from prison. She is now eligiable for parole. Although she's filed, she has been denied thus far.

Nine dead children later - Jennifer, Joesph Jr., Barbra, Timothy, Nathan, Mary Frances, Jonathan, Micheal, and Tami Lynne - she is diagnosed with the most extreme case of Munchausen by proxy.

Grandma? Pt.2

Police began looking for a disabled schizophrenic that had been reported missing by his social worker. The police noticed disrupted soil on the ground, searched it, and found the body of Leona Carpenter. After investigating, seven bodies were recovered. Dorothea was tried for nine murders, convicted of three, and sentenced two life sentences.

Initially, Dorothea was not a suspect. She was allowed to leave the ground and have a coffee nearby. Instead, she fled to Los Angeles where she immediately befriended someone who recognized her and called the police.

The trial lasted a year. The prosecutor, O'Mara, called over 130 witnesses. He argued that the defendent would use sleeping pills to get the tenants to sleep, then she'd suffocate them, and hired convicts to dig holes in the backyard for the bodies. The jury deliberated for over a month.

She died on March 27, 2011 in a prison in Chowcilla, California at the age of 82 due to natural causes.

Grandma? Pt.1

She looks like your average granny: sweet, full of stories, and love. Full of stories she is, but the kind of stories she has to tell aren't exactly enjoyable. The story of this woman will blow your mind.

Dorothea Puente. She ran a boarding school in the 1980's in California. Every one chalked her  up to being the next great hero. After all, she was taking those in who needed her help and caring for them when no one else could or would. What they didn't know is that she was cashing the Social Security checks of her elderly and mentally disabled patients. Those who complained were killed and burried in the back yard.
This woman did not just wake up one day and decided to steal money and kill people. No, she had lived a rough life. She was born an only child. Her parents worked as cotton pickers. Her father died when she was eight from TB and her mother past in a motorcycle accident shortly there after. She was sent to an orphanage until relatives took her in. She began lying about her childhood saying that she was one of three children and that they were both and raised in Mexico. Looking back, it should have been clear that there was going to be a problem with this troubled, little girl.

She was married at the age of sixteen and had two daughters; one she gave up for adoption, the other she gave to her relatives. She began pregnant again shortly thereafter but suffered a miscarriage. Her husband was repulsed so he left her. Due to humiliation, Dorothea began lying about her marriage saying that her husband had died to a heart attack. She attempted to forge checks but was caught, sentenced to a year in prison, and then released on parole at six months. Soon after her parole, she was impregnated again; this time, by a man she barely knew. She gave birth to a baby girl and then gave her up for adoption. Later, she met Johanson who she would remain married to for fourteen years.

She continued in her pattern of divorcing and remarrying until she finally purchased the house that she turned into her boarding house.

When it came to the tenants of her home, there were mixed feelings. Some tenants dispised her while others praised her. Either way, she was killing them off. Without a doubt, her motive was money. The first murder was a close friend of Dorothea's who she poisoned with an overdose of tylenol and codiene. She told the police that her friend was very upset about her husband and they chalked it up to a suicide.

She kept killing using drug overdoses until finally something was discovered. Find out her fate in the nest post, Grandma? Pt.2

Black Dahlia Pt.2

The police have no identified a killer. They believe the killer to be long dead. Unfortunately, this means that he or she will never be brought to justice. Still, people who are interested in the Black Dahlia murder case never quit investigating. Here are some of the top suspects in the case and some information on them.
  • Robert Manley - He was the last known person to see Elizabeth Short alive. He was booked as a suspect right away but released right after passing a polygraph test. His wife commited him to a mental hospital in 1954 due to psychiatric problems; he said he was hearing voices. He was also given the "truth serum" the same year but he spoke nothing of Elizabeth Short's dead. He died 39 years to the day he last saw Ms. Short. He death was said to be caused by an accidental fall.
  • Mark Hansen - This man was the head of some sleazy night club. Many of the girls who worked for him lived in his home. Elizabeth Short lived there for a little while. It was reported that he repeatedly attempted to get her in bed, but his attempts were in vain.
There are more suspects but the their ties in the murder are quite confusing. You can read more on them at this website: http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/famous/dahlia/new_11.html

It was tragic what happened to Ms. Short. It is sickening that we have people in this world who would do such a thing and be able to live with themselves. Hopefully, nothing like this will ever happen again. We a corrupt people living in a corrupt world.

There is now a movie based on this woman's unfathomable fate. It is entitled The Black Dahlia. Here is a preview:

Black Dahlia Pt.1

Elizabeth Short

Ever wonder about the Black Dahlia? Who is she? What happened to her? If you're like me, you've heard of her but don't know the whole story. If you're like me, you want to know everything there is to know about her.. and then some!

Her name was Elizabeth Short. She was only 22 years young - a beautiful waitress. The hopes of solving her gruesome murder have been all but given up on. The Los Angeles police believe whole-heartedly that her killer has been dead for years.

It's January 15, 1947. You're walking down the street with your three year-old daughter when something catches your eye. At first glance, you believe it to be a broken store mannequin. When you look closer, however, you discover the truth. It is, in fact, a woman who has been cut in two, lying face up. Quickly, you sheild your daughter's eyes and run to a home within close proximity to call the police. This happened to Betty Bersinger.

Crime scene view of Elizabeth Short

Harry Hansen and Finis Brown were assigned the case. Because there was no blood on the body or the grass, they determined that the victim, Elizabeth Short, had been murdered elsewhere and dragged into the grass one piece at a time. The victim's face terribly disfigured. There had been 3-inch gashes into the corners of her mouth giving her the smile of a deranged clown. Ligature marks around her wrists and ankles revealed that she had been restrained and, possibly, tortured as well. Their next task was to figure out just who this woman was.

The police ran her fingerprints and she was quickly identified, due to a mail room job she had taken and an underage drinking in Satan Barbra. The police called mother of the victim, Phobe Short and told her that her daughter had won a beauty contest. After prying as much information from her as they could, they informed her that her daughter was actually dead.

Short was extremely fond of men and an unstable lifestyle. In the last six months of her life, she was going form hotel to apartment to anywhere she could crash - always short on cash.

Short's father told police that he hadn't seen his daughter in three years. He was apparently still angry at her for choosing the lifestyle of a gypsy, rather than the one he'd offered her. He refused to identify the body.

Her story continues in the next post...

Murder Mystery in Mio Pt.1

David Tyll

Brian Ognjan

A small, hard-drinking town, one much like the one I reside in, kept a secret for years - 18 years to be exact. What happened? Something that will chill you to the bone. Here is the story of David Tyll and Brian Ognjan.

These two friends travelled from the suburbs of Detriot in 1985 to Mio, in northern Michigan, for a nice relaxing weekend of deer hunting. Their fates would come to light as this did not turn out to be any "normal" hunting trip.

When they never returned from their trip, their families suspected foul play because they were responsible men who would not follow through with some of the rumors - like leaving their families to begin new lives. Although the families were right, it took the police 18 years to figure out the truth behind the lies.

Here's the story: The men were seen extremely intoxicated in a bar by a bunch of locals. Barbra B. just happened to be in the bar. She was a town drunk and had had more than a few drinks that night. However, eighteen years later, when talking to police, she assured them that she held her alcohol well and knew everything that happened that night. Also, in the bar were the Duvall brothers - Raymond and Donald - also known as Coco and Jr. Barbra over heard them talking about beating the stumbling hunters to death and feeding them to their pigs because, "pigs have to eat too." That night, Barbra and a friend she was with at the bar left and stumbled home to her friend's house. Once they got there, they heard noises outside so they peaked to see what was going on. They were pleads for help... coming from David Tyll and Brian Ognjan. Coco and Jr. had baseball bats in their hands. According to Barbara, Coco swung the bat, first at David Tyll, and "his head just disappeared." Brian got away but it didn't take long for them to catch him. They stood him up and said, "Look, he peed his pants." Then, they swung at him resulting in the loss of his life as well.

Barbra and her friend made a beeline for the door, sneaking to her house hoping that the men hadn't noticed they were there. Once they got to her house, there was a beating on her door. Coco and Jr. warned her: "You saw nothing. You heard nothing. The pigs need to eat too." Barbra, scared for her life, vowed to keep their secret.

What will happen next? Check back to find out.

They Got Away With MURDER!?

Five reasons why people get away with murder!

  1. They know how to fit into a crowd. It's important to know that dangerous people do not look any different than your mother, grandmother, or brother. These people are different in their heads, not physically.
  2. They are persuasive. They would be able to sweet talk you into anything. Heck, I can't even get my best friend to go to Sheetz' to buy me a slushie!! These people are able to make you believe that they are not dangerous and do not pose a threat to anyone.
  3. They are calm, cool, and collected. They don't crack under pressure. They can commit a murder and walk away without so much as a guilty conscious. They seem to think strategically with everything and they tend not to show much emotion.
  4. Contrary to what people may believe, the televison is misleading. There usually isn't much evidence left behind, if any!
  5. Witnesses are scared. They don't usually come forward. And even if, by chance, they do, sometimes the whole story doesn't come out because they are trying to protect someone.
Now you know. I could never be a criminal. I crack under pressure way too easily, and, like I said, I can't even get a slushie!! (:

This guys looks normal, eh? He's one of the most popular serial killers in the United States. Yep, that's Ted Bundy.

Triad of Evil

Can three simple behaviors in children tell if you are going to be prone to being a murderer? Some think YES! However, others believe that this is only a sterotype. The formula, consisting of the following predicts that you will have some issues others may not, but it does not neccessarily condemn you to killing:

animal cruelty + fire setting + bed wetting = murderer!??

However, all three of these behaviors show up often in most violent criminals but just because you have them doesn not mean you are going to be a killer. It is typical for serial killers to have all three of these behaviors continue past the age of five, according to a research study conducted by various criminologists.

Jail Them or Rehabilitate Them?

In Fort Worth, a 42 year-old man was acquitted. He was being tried for rape. Only three weeks later, he was in custody to be tried for the rape and murder of another woman. He was arrested by five officers who found the victim stashed in a closet in her apartment. Court records show that he was also to be in court for robbery and attempted aggravated assult on a 59 year-old homeless woman. Without droning on about all the gruesome details, I can tell you that this man commits one violent crime after another, it seems. Clearly, he needs help. However, should he be thrown in jail or should the time be taken to try and rehabilitate him?

This question is not being asked publically, it's just something I wonder about. I believe that if this man was going to be given the chance of parole eventually, he should be rehabilitated. Throwing him in jail is not going to fix anything. The arguement from the other side represents our money being put into this. I suppose it comes down to economics versus morals - unless money is your top priority. I believe he should be given the chance at rehabilitation. What do you think?

People only do that in movies, right?

We simply don't bat an eyelash when we hear of common murder weapons. For example - a stabbing with a knife, a shooting with a gun, explosives, drownings, poisons, intentional fires, or even rope for strangulation doesn't intrigue us. However, sometimes the use of uncommon murder weapons can pull us in, send questions racing through our minds, and tickle our sense of curiosity just enough to satisfy the evils inside of us. Here is a list of unusual murder weapons that have been used.

  •   Katana - In 2004, Michael Desiderio was literally "hacked to death" by Ricardo Richardson in an argument sparked by nothing more than a pillow. Not surprisingly, this all took place in the middle of a cocaine high. No one really knows where the katana came from, but it must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  • Chainsaw - Although we only think this happens in movies, it actually has been used a few times in reality. One man decided to be remembered for his use of the chainsaw when he used two of them to slaughter and dismember his wife. A random phone call was received by Carla Corona stating that her father had killed her mother and was about to drag her next door. The caller was her father, himself. Taking place in Lewisville, Texas, Carla and her husband raced to make it to her father's house where they found her mother in pieces. No explanation was found, nor was her father.

  • Microwave - Another story of a careless, negligent mother murdering her innocent child is a heart-breaker. However, that's what we've got here. China Arnold pleaded not guilty at her arraignment. Her defense argued "temporary insanity" due to alcohol. She stated that if she "hadn't gotten so drunk" that Paris Talley, her baby, "wouldn't have died." When her autopsy was performed, coroners reported that there were high-heat burnsinside her body, but there were not burns scarring the outside. Talley's DNA was found in Arnold's microwave.

  • Spatula - In Salt Lake City, Angeles Cadillo-Castro beat her 5 year old daughter to death. The spatulas were nothing special; they were just standard metal and plastic.  Angeles was charged with 1st degree murder.

  • Corkscrew - This murder remains unsolved. A 55 year old man died in 2008 due to a corkscrew to the side of the head. The murder weapon was lying only inches away but no one was ever accused, nor could anyone - including the police - come up with motive.

  • Nail gun - With this weapon comes another fictional story plot to our imaginations. However, this was also used to end someone's life in the nonfiction world. In Australia, a 27 year old Chinese student was on the receiving end of 35 nails to the head. Because it is impossible to link any nail to a specific nail gun, police never found the perpetrator.

Are children capable of murder?

We, as humans, love to believe that the world is a perfect place. Well, maybe not perfect but we do like to believe that not everything that we hear is true. Especially when we tune into the news. How can teenagers kill other teenagers? How can teenager kill younger kids? How can adults kill kids? How can anyone take anyone's life, for that matter? Sometimes, crimes blow our minds. Let's take a look at young George Junis Stinney, his tragic fate, and the fate he chose for two others.

Being only 14 years old, George Junnis Stinney was the youngest person executed in the US in the 2oth century. In 1944, race was still an immense social barrier. Stinney was black and was accused of killing two white girls - Mary Emma Thames, age 8, and Betty June Binnicker, age 11. Search parties were organized and hundreds of people volunteered to join in the search when the two girls never returned home after riding their bikes searching for flowers. It is documented that the girls rode past the Stinney property and asked George and his sister, Katherine, where they could find a certain type of flower. When the girls were finally found, it was the next morning, they'd both suffered multiple head wounds, and they were lying in a ditch caked full of mud. Stinney was arrested, and after a long interrogation, he confessed. As the confession goes, George Junnis Stinney wanted to "have sex with" Betty but realized he could not do so until Mary Emma was out of the picture; therefore, he decided to kill her. When he attempted to complete the murder both girls "fought back" causing him to revert to killing them both. He hit them repeatedly with a 15 inch railroad spike that was found in the ditch alongside the girls. Stinney was charged with first-degree murder. His defense argued that he was simply too young to be held responsible for the crimes. The jury quickly returned a guilty verdict, and Stinney was sentenced to death by the electric chair. George Junnis Stinney walked to the the execution room with a Bible under his arm.

This is one of many true crime stories that proves people are capable of anything. Even if you don't believe it, you are capable of murder. It all comes down to the Lucifer Effect. The choice of crossing the line that divides good and evil is constantly being challenged. What would it take for you to snap?
