Barbra had every reason to be scared and want to keep the secrets. The other witnesses that the police had spoken with ended up dead. Barbra didn't want to end up the same. The investigating police officer began to gain Barbra's trust, gardening with her and spending time together. Finally, after more than a decade, Barbra is ready to tell everything.
She tells the story and her details are questioned because of the alcohol she consumed. She verifies that she was an alcohol and knew how to hold her liquor. She accused the Duvall brothers in her statement and they were immediately arrested.

BEFORE this whole thing took place, I remember him telling me that the brothers attacked him after losing a $10 game and telling him they would cut his throat and make him disappear. I remember when he told me that story it didn't mean much beyond the fact that there are assholes out there. Then, when this story broke, he said "those were the guys I told you about, playing pool in Saginaw". It was bone-chilling to me when he said that. I've been to Mio more than 3 dozen times in the years since, and the story I hear is always the same... they were worthless, heartless, white-trash criminals.

DeleteI just saw this post and laughed because if you were betting that Coco is somebody's bitch in prison you would be paying.I don't know the Duvall's before prison but in 2014 I was sentenced to 6 years for a drug case and CoCo was 1 of the first people I met at the horseshoe pit.As we got to know each other he would open up about his case and I can't say he didn't do it because only the people that were there and God truly know.But I can say Coco was 1 of the nicest people I met while I was locked up.And I can guarantee you he is nobody's Bitch.

ReplyDeleteI was raised in the Glennie/Curtisville area from the '60s through the early '80s and I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you. I have always said the farther north you go the farther south you get including inbreeding and down syndrome. The running joke up there is "she was ate before she was nine". I knew of the Duvall's but only enough to know if there was a Duvall party or gathering don't go because if you looked "funny" or "too long" at one of them or their girlfriends you might not leave that gathering. I have had people read the book Darker Than Night about this case and then showed them my old school yearbooks and pointed out about ten people mentioned in the book.

Coco insisted that I fight or get my ass kicked so we squared off with his buddies circling around. I punched him once in the nose and he fell to the ground screaming and crying. Coco, or his buddies, never bothered me again.

Her story changed at least 10 times and she admitted her level of intoxication that night and just about everynight was beyond impaired as she was a severe alcholic. Others seem to say a bunch of shit as a revenge thing hoping to get them in trouble cuz of past encounters. They may be innocent or they may be guilty. But what it defenitly was, was not a fair trial. The detectives wanted them so they got them bottom line. Many leads were never investigated. No eveidence, no blood, no vehicle, no hair, no bodies, no fingerprints, no weapons, NO TRACE OF SHIT!

DeleteThis story is very true, I promise you that the book is a bit exaggerated but it is very true! I have known this family for decades and they really did feed these poor hunters to the pigs. It's amazing there was a conviction without any hard evidence, but I was so glad to see justice served after all the years they were free. The brothers really did fight in a group, always waiting for the right time to retaliate. even their friends would join in gang style to intimidate anyone they didn't like. They abused the women, and also had incestuous abusive relationships with the girls in their direct family. Their family line has a long history of abuse, neglect, fighting and so on. I believe it is generations of their family that is cursed. JR's daughters were sexually abused and taken advantage of by the some of the brothers in this family. One daughter, Dawn Duvall is serving prison time for killing a cab driver, stabbing him over 70 times. the physical, sexual and mental abuse she endured by the hands of some of the family brothers who were supposed to be protecting her- instead turned her life upside down. Jr Sr. had a son, Tom Jay, that sexually abused his own teen daughter for years and is in prison now. there was a brother that went to prison for having a relationship with his step-daughter, 14 at the time I believe. Another brother went to prison for accosting his own grandchild for immoral purposes. Lots in this family are seriously cursed and perverted. Not all of them, not all of any family is rotten, some are actually good people and are lucky they made it -but gosh the sinister side of this family left a wake of destruction in their path that I pray stops now.

The defense had no issue with Ball being a juror. Case is Closed, and the automatic appeal was denied. Get over it.
