Black Dahlia Pt.2

The police have no identified a killer. They believe the killer to be long dead. Unfortunately, this means that he or she will never be brought to justice. Still, people who are interested in the Black Dahlia murder case never quit investigating. Here are some of the top suspects in the case and some information on them.
  • Robert Manley - He was the last known person to see Elizabeth Short alive. He was booked as a suspect right away but released right after passing a polygraph test. His wife commited him to a mental hospital in 1954 due to psychiatric problems; he said he was hearing voices. He was also given the "truth serum" the same year but he spoke nothing of Elizabeth Short's dead. He died 39 years to the day he last saw Ms. Short. He death was said to be caused by an accidental fall.
  • Mark Hansen - This man was the head of some sleazy night club. Many of the girls who worked for him lived in his home. Elizabeth Short lived there for a little while. It was reported that he repeatedly attempted to get her in bed, but his attempts were in vain.
There are more suspects but the their ties in the murder are quite confusing. You can read more on them at this website: http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/famous/dahlia/new_11.html

It was tragic what happened to Ms. Short. It is sickening that we have people in this world who would do such a thing and be able to live with themselves. Hopefully, nothing like this will ever happen again. We a corrupt people living in a corrupt world.

There is now a movie based on this woman's unfathomable fate. It is entitled The Black Dahlia. Here is a preview:

Black Dahlia Pt.1

Elizabeth Short

Ever wonder about the Black Dahlia? Who is she? What happened to her? If you're like me, you've heard of her but don't know the whole story. If you're like me, you want to know everything there is to know about her.. and then some!

Her name was Elizabeth Short. She was only 22 years young - a beautiful waitress. The hopes of solving her gruesome murder have been all but given up on. The Los Angeles police believe whole-heartedly that her killer has been dead for years.

It's January 15, 1947. You're walking down the street with your three year-old daughter when something catches your eye. At first glance, you believe it to be a broken store mannequin. When you look closer, however, you discover the truth. It is, in fact, a woman who has been cut in two, lying face up. Quickly, you sheild your daughter's eyes and run to a home within close proximity to call the police. This happened to Betty Bersinger.

Crime scene view of Elizabeth Short

Harry Hansen and Finis Brown were assigned the case. Because there was no blood on the body or the grass, they determined that the victim, Elizabeth Short, had been murdered elsewhere and dragged into the grass one piece at a time. The victim's face terribly disfigured. There had been 3-inch gashes into the corners of her mouth giving her the smile of a deranged clown. Ligature marks around her wrists and ankles revealed that she had been restrained and, possibly, tortured as well. Their next task was to figure out just who this woman was.

The police ran her fingerprints and she was quickly identified, due to a mail room job she had taken and an underage drinking in Satan Barbra. The police called mother of the victim, Phobe Short and told her that her daughter had won a beauty contest. After prying as much information from her as they could, they informed her that her daughter was actually dead.

Short was extremely fond of men and an unstable lifestyle. In the last six months of her life, she was going form hotel to apartment to anywhere she could crash - always short on cash.

Short's father told police that he hadn't seen his daughter in three years. He was apparently still angry at her for choosing the lifestyle of a gypsy, rather than the one he'd offered her. He refused to identify the body.

Her story continues in the next post...

Murder in Mio Pt.2

Junior Duvall

Barbra had every reason to be scared and want to keep the secrets. The other witnesses that the police had spoken with ended up dead. Barbra didn't want to end up the same. The investigating police officer began to gain Barbra's trust, gardening with her and spending time together. Finally, after more than a decade, Barbra is ready to tell everything.

She tells the story and her details are questioned because of the alcohol she consumed. She verifies that she was an alcohol and knew how to hold her liquor. She accused the Duvall brothers in her statement and they were immediately arrested.

Coco Duvall
The trial was shaky. The Duvall brothers were sure that they were going to get off free because there was no hard evidence. No bodies, no blood, no cause of death. However, when the jury went behind the scenes for deliberation, it took only two hours. They returned guilty verdicts for both of the brothers. They are now serving life without parole.

Hunters still flock to Mio, Michigan every year for hunting, but the story of David Tyll and Brian Ognjen is never far from their minds. Although the town was extrememly relieved to have the Duvall brothers gone, the story lives on. David Tyll and Brian Ognjen will never be forgotten.
